Instruction
Learn to Swim Levels
Student at these levels receive 10 minute increments of individualized
high quality
instruction allowing us to teach each student at his or her own level.
Baby Curriculum (ages
6 mo.- 24 mo.)
This level of instruction is for Parent and Infants, is taught in progression so that both the parent and baby understand the basic skills of infant swimming, the baby enjoys water play, learns breath control, and gains comfort with submersions*.
2 re-usable swim diapers are required for these classes and can be purchased
at Blue Dolphin Swim School.
*It is up to the instructor to decide
when an infant is ready for submersions.

Tiny
Bubbles
Ages: 6 mo. to 24
mo
|
At this level we introduce the infant to water, using the Gentle Touch Technique.
Primary skills include: rolling submersions, back floats, and water play through song.
It is up to the instructor to decide when infant is ready for submersions. |

10 Minute Private: Learn to Swim Curriculum
(ages
2 years+)
These levels introduce the basic
strokes and students begin to move themselves in the water independently.

Turtle
|
Children new to swimming begin at this level. Primary skills include: introduction and mastery of the prone float position, introduction to underwater pull through (diggers), back float, and jumping from the side of the pool to an instructor. |

Octopus
|
The Turtle Level must be graduated before becoming an Octopus.
Primary skills include: continued work with diggers until secure, begin rolling for breath, reinforcement of back float, beginning elementary backstroke, and jumping from the side to an instructor.

|
Sting Ray
|
The Octopus Level must be graduated before becoming a Sting Ray.
Primary skills include: out of water recovery with underwater pull through, endurance to swim a minimum of 11 yards continuously, secure elementary backstroke, and kicking with a kick board.

Intermediate
Division
These group classes are designed to teach swim lane etiquette,
integrate the swim clock into the workout and build endurance.

Low Dolphin
(up to 30 minutes
and 3 students) |
Experienced swimmers can test into this level or Sting Ray must be graduated before beginning Low Dolphin. This level is for students who have all the components down for beginning freestyle and rotary breathing, backstroke, treading water, kicking and diving. Endurance is added to strokes working toward swimming 25 yards of the pool at a time.
**Dolphins receive 10 minutes of instruction in a group class of up to 3 students. The total class time is dependent on the amount of students in the class, with a maximum of 30 minutes and 3 students. |
High Dolphin
(up to 30 minutes
and 4 students)

Experienced swimmers can test into this level or Low Dolphin must be graduated before beginning High Dolphin. This level is for students who able to swim 25 yards of the pool at a time. Continued work with freestyle and rotary breath, backstroke, beginning butterfly kick (dolphin kick), and diving.
** The total class time is dependent on the amount of students in the class, with a maximum of 30 minutes and 4 students. |

Otter
(30 minutes and
up to 8 students)
|
Experienced swimmers can test into this level or High Dolphin must be graduated before beginning Otter. This is the first team level. Students must be able to swim 1 length of the pool freestyle and backstroke without assistance. The main focus is endurance, kick sets, and continued technique on freestyle, backstroke, butterfly with arms, and breaststroke kick. This class is 30 minutes regardless of the total student roster. |

Mini-Team
(1 hour and
up to 8 students)
|
Main emphasis is on endurance for freestyle, backstroke, butterfly, breaststroke, and competitive starts and turns. |
Pre-Team
(1 Hour) |
Breaststroke and Butterfly will be introduced using drills to isolate the specific upper and lower body motions. Students will work toward efficient application of these strokes through 50 yards.
Students will continue to develop backstroke and freestyle technique, pace and endurance. |
Team
(1 Hour) |
This class is designed to build on the stroke development introduced in the Pre Team class. Students will gauge their progress against the clock and practice competitive starts and turns. The emphasis of this class is to prepare the students for competitive level swim programs such as CARA, USA, and the Olympics (well maybe?). |

Adult
Instruction
These individually and group taught classes are designed for Adults ages 18+.

Swimming is more than an activity...it's a life skill. Take time to learn.
Basic skills taught include: prone float, back float, treading
water, underwater surface dive, bobs, and upper body movement with
breath control. |

Fitness

This class is tailored to 3 levels of adult swimmers. Our qualified instructor will place you in the appropriate level to achieve an optimal workout. Focus is on rhythmic breathing, endurance and swim stroke technique. |
